Yeah, I know.
I've been curious about Zagreb's Maksimir Zoo for a long time and this past summer we spent a nice afternoon there with some of my husband's family. The zoo is actually part of a larger park, which was the first in this region of Europe when it opened in 1794.
Maksimir is surrounded by oak trees, wandering paths and meadows of wildflowers. It's quiet and peaceful...the kind of park you want to read or nap in. There's a lot of historic significance here, too. One of my favorite landmarks is the Mogila. The monument was built in 1925 to celebrate 1,000 years of the Kingdom of Croatia and its hill is made up of soil from 155 cities across the country - all places that symbolize important cultural or historical movements.
We had a lot of fun exploring Maksimir Zoo and I was pretty impressed with the variety of animals! As you can probably imagine, there were a lot of furry photo opps...
